Most hairstylists do appreciate when someone brings in a photo as it best describes what a client has in mind - easier than trying to describe a hair style in words alone. After all "short" can mean many things to different people and a photo can help with communication to achieve a mutually satisfying result.
It is hard to get someone who really knows how to cut hair and to have it lay down the way you want it and to be able to style it after they cut it wrong.
